SIS Productions

Who We Are
Founded in 2000, SIS Productions, a 2008-2009 Hugo theater-in-residence, has successfully premiered 15 original episodes of their hit show Sex in Seattle, playing to sell-out crowds, while always maintaining a positive bottom-line. They also presented the critically-acclaimed Northwest premiere of Michael Golamco's Cowboy Versus Samurai, a successful production of the Northwest premiere of Julia Cho's BFE, and host an annual day-long festival of new works by local Asian American playwrights developed via the SIS Writers Group. SIS continues to stay true to its mission, by giving new directors, new writers, new actors, and new artists the opportunity to develop and showcase their craft, while producing shows that portray the diversity of what it means to be Asian American.

Mission and Vision
SIS Productions strives to create, develop and produce quality works that involve Asian American women, their themes, and issues confronting their community. SIS Productions encourages opportunities and support for Asian American women to be involved in all aspects of the production of artistic endeavors.

SIS Productions was created due to the lack of Asian American representation on television, in film and in pop culture. Something was needed to fill that void. SIS Productions provides more opportunities for local Asian American artists to work and, more importantly, creates the chance for those interested in taking on positions of leadership. By giving them the opportunity to produce, to write, to direct, to design, and to act, SIS hopes to empower more Asian Americans with viable skills in this field, and therefore create greater visibility for all.

SIS Productions' 2008 Season

BFE – West Coast Premiere
by award-winning playwright Julia Cho
February 22 - March 16, 2008
Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 4 p.m.

"an insightful, beautifully structured drama about the agonies and comforts of isolation, told through the struggles of Panny and her family.” - The New York Times

Panny is a typical 14-year-old teenage girl, living in the middle of nowhere U.S.A., coping with everyday stuff like an agoraphobic mom who's into way too much TV, a socially-awkward uncle who's a security guard at the local mall, a pretty blonde gal pal who gets all the guys, and wanting to date but not knowing where to start. Oh, yeah, and there's a serial killer on the loose. But what does Panny have to worry about? She's Asian American. The murderer would have to notice her first. A panoramic view of self-identity and relationships written by award-winning Korean American playwright Julia Cho.

Sex in Seattle Re-Runs

by local playwrights Serin Ngai & Kathy Hsieh
February 22 – March 15, 2008
Friday and Saturday nights at 10 p.m.

“Sex in Seattle is progressive in its field, not only for producing sexy, witty theatre written with heart about vital issues, but also for showcasing an under-represented part of the population." – Seattle University Spectator

Back by popular demand, SIS presents readings of past episodes so that new audiences can catch up and SIS fans can relive their favorite shows.

ReAct's Northwest Premiere of Well

by Lisa Kron
May 2 – June 1, 2008
Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 and 7 p.m. (No 2 p.m. show on 5/18.)

"A drama of depth, infectious humor and great humanity. Riveting." - The San Francisco Chronicle

The hilarious new play by acclaimed writer and performer Lisa Kron, Well is her fantastic and funny semi-autobiographical exploration into health, family, activism and community. Poor Lisa. All she wants to do is put on a nice, orderly little play about her family, growing up, and how she got cured of her illness. But her mother keeps interrupting, offering snacks to the audience and interjecting her own versions of Lisa's story. A terrific new show for anyone who's ever had a mother.
