Marie Howe
Hugo House: In a couple of months you will debut a brand-new piece at Hugo House; have you started working on it yet?
Marie Howe: I started writing it on paper a few weeks ago, but it usually takes me years to finish anything.
HH: What were your first thoughts on receiving an invitation to write on an assigned theme? Any regrets on having said yes?
MH: The road trip means something different to me now that I am a mother and have been driving around for too long.
I always regret agreeing to write on any topic, and I'm planning to swerve.
HH: What road trip would you most like to take?
MH: I dreamed last week that my car came to a stop. It was a relief.
HH: Jack Kerouac spent nearly a decade on the road with not much more than a notebook. If you were on the road for that long, what three things would you be sure to pack?
MH: When I was on the road as a young woman I took mascara, a notebook and my sneakers. Now? My daughter and a cup of hot tea.
