How to donate securities to Richard Hugo House

Thank you for your interest in donating securities to Richard Hugo House. It is usually beneficial to give appreciated securities, since you'll bypass any capital gains tax due had you sold them—and you'll receive a charitable deduction for their fair market value.

Your charitable deduction will be the median market value on the date of gift. The legal gift date for certificates that are mailed is the postmark date on the envelope. For securities wired into our account, the legal gift date is the day they are received in our account.

You may instruct your broker to have securities wire transferred to us, in care of our broker, Smith Barney, at:

Please print the Notification of Transfer form, and send or fax the completed form to Richard Hugo House, 1634 11th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122, fax (206) 320-8767, when your broker makes the transfer so we can ensure that the securities have been received.

Certificate transfer
If you have stock certificates in your possession, you may transfer them to Smith Barney by completing the back of each certificate as follows:

1. Enter name(s) as they appear on the face of the certification;
2. Enter assignee:

3. Enter number of shares being transferred;

4.  Write "Smith Barney" as attorney to transfer funds to the named assignee (Richard Hugo House);
