Marketing and Events Intern


Richard Hugo House seeks an intern to work closely with our marketing manager and programs team in matters of marketing, communications and event planning with an emphasis on copywriting, public relations, internal communications, research, social networking and event planning and assistance.

Programming is at the heart of the Hugo House mission, and the marketing and events intern will be integrally involved in what we do, from licking envelopes to working with the great writers we bring here through the Hugo Literary Series.

DURATION, APPROXIMATE HOURS AND NEXT START DATE
Duration: Six (6) months.
Approximate hours: 10 hours per week (weekly hours may fluctuate in hours and days depending on intern's schedule and the House's needs). There will be an opportunity for more hours leading up to the Hugo Literary Series events.
Next start date: Open until filled.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
•  Assisting the marketing manager with improving the House's marketing infrastructure with a specific focus on social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), researching media and cultivating media relationships, improving internal communications and performing various administrative duties;
• Assisting with the promotion of Hugo House's classes, residencies and events, including strategizing, writing press releases, developing Web content and pitching stories to media;
• Managing and administering the Hugo Writers Fund, Hugo House's artist support program;
• Working with the programs team to manage and produce events, such as the Hugo Literary Series;
• Participating in the everyday life of a nonprofit arts organization; sending
e-mails, serving on committees, working with spreadsheets and drinking
lots of coffee.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
•  Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, research and   customer service skills;
•  Administrative and/or project coordination experience; •  Strong attention to detail;
•  Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites;
•  Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment;
•  An interest in arts administration and/or a love of the arts.
