Hugo Works in ProgressFor years Hugo House has been hosting Stage Fright, a monthly open-mic reading for teen writers. But why should kids have all the fun? That's why we have launched Hugo Works in Progress, a monthly open-mic series for adults. The ground rules are simple: 1. Show up; 2. Sign up; 3. Get up and read. The open mic begins at 7 p.m. in the Cabaret, but people interested in reading their work should plan to arrive by 6:30 to sign up, since space will be limited to 15 five-minute slots. Please practice your piece ahead of time to make sure it fits within the allotted time—we have a wicked loud egg timer that you just don't want to have go off in the middle of a sentence! All genres are welcome. Oh, and did we mention that admission is free and the bar will be open? Hugo Works in Progress replaces Mélange on Mondays as a forum for people to share their work and find like-minded writers in the community. Works in Progress occurs the first Monday of every month. All events begin at 7 p.m., with sign-up at 6:30. Questions? Email alixwilber@hugohouse.org
