Zine Archives Intern

Zine Archive and Publishing Project (ZAPP) is currently seeking a zine archives intern for a six to nine month internship at Richard Hugo House. Under the supervision of the library manager, the zine archives intern will work with other interns to perform shelf maintenance and organize the zine collection, train volunteers to catalog, order necessary supplies for the archives and help create a welcoming space for visitors during its open hours. The archives intern will also be expected to engage in research projects and contact other zine archives for the purposes of supporting the zine community at large. Finally, the intern will contribute to the zine archives’ wiki, documenting their activities and findings.

DURATION, APPROXIMATE HOURS AND NEXT START DATE

•    Duration: six to nine months
•    Approximate Hours: 10-15 hours, 3-5 days a week, including some evenings and Saturdays. Additional hours may be requested, subject to the intern’s availability.
•    Next Start Date: open until filled

PRIMARY DUTIES:
•    Updating, recording and cataloging zine donations;
•    Shelving zines using an alphabetical filing system and ZAPP-specific categories;
•    Training volunteers in ZAPP’s cataloging system;
•    Organizing and maintaining zine-making supplies;
•    Participating in special ZAPP projects;
•    Contributing to the ZAPP wiki;
•    Reception during ZAPP’s open hours.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Love of zines and knowledge of zine culture;
•    People skills and good customer service;
•    Ability to keep in contact with the library manager and other staff via email and phone;
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills;
•    Flexibility and openness to new projects;
•    Ability to take initiative and work independently;
•    Library and/or bookstore experience a plus.
