The House Itself
Richard Hugo House is a 16,206 square-foot Victorian house that dates to 1902. Before the organization bought it in August 1997, the house was the New City Theater, and before that, it was Manning and Sons mortuary and funeral home. Originally, it was an apartment house. In addition to administrative offices, the House includes:
- an 86-seat theater (that can be reconfigured to hold 148);
- a 80-seat cabaret performance space with a cafe/bar;
- the Zine Archive and Publishing Project (a library of more than 20,000 handmade zines);
- two meeting rooms;
- a conference room.
There is an adjoining parking lot with about two dozen spaces. (See the directions page if you want to learn how to get here.)
You may visit the House during regular business hours (12 p.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, or 1-5 p.m. on Saturday). If you would like a tour of the House, please contact us at welcome@hugohouse.org to make an appointment.
Most of our spaces are available to rent for public and private events (which have ranged from theater productions to birthday parties).
