Field Trips

Bring your class to Hugo House for an hour of creative writing instruction followed by a reading on our Cabaret stage. We provide the prompts, the paper and the spotlights. You bring the talent. For more information on curricula or to schedule a visit, contact Margot Kahn Case, youth programs manager, at margotcase@hugohouse.org or (206) 322-7030 ext. 108.

Field Trip Workshops:

An Introduction to Richard Hugo
Who was Richard Hugo, and why did we name a whole house after him? Take a look at some of Hugo’s work and try a couple of his famous writing exercises. Learn how to let words “choose you” and get playful with language. Within an hour you’ll create three brand new poems that you can share with the world on our cabaret stage.

An Introduction to Zines
Visit the world’s largest collection of zines at Richard Hugo House. Zines, or homemade magazines, can be made by anyone and cover every topic under the sun. The archive and workspace is devoted to collecting, preserving and promoting self-published and independent zines, comics and other hard-to-classify small press periodicals of all types. Get a tour of the archive, check out some great examples and learn how to make your own.
